Abstract : At the beginning of the XVIIIth century, the republic of Mulhouse is an independent enclave in Alsatian and French ground. The trade constitutes an essential resource for this city devoid of agricultural domain. Betting with opportunism on the indiennage, the first latest fad to affect all the sectors of society, mulhousiens traders are going to cause, from the 1750s, the explosion of a new industrial activity and to transform their city into real industrial pole.
